Today I was able to question the Secretary of State for the Dept. of Culture, Media and Sport.  Whilst we started on the Government  plans to maximise the potential of the UK creative industries to create a million more jobs by 2030, I was keen to get a focus on children’s media.
I was pleased the Secretary of State shared her focus and ambition for youth policy, and the protections for children’s programming.
Though I think we need to realise that children’s media has important long term consequences on young people and our standing in the world due to its reach, yet it has commissioning challenges other programming does not because of its focus on younger viewers.
The creative industries are a global British success story growing at more than 1.5 times the rate of the wider economy over the past decade and I hope it remains vibrant.
